Night Walk in Late Summer<\/h3>\n

I walk the dog
\nfor her evening pee.
\nShe prances.
\nI lumber.
\nPast the park;
\npools of green spotlighted
\nin the blackout.
\nHer lead
\ndelicately taut,
\nwe advance in stages,
\nsniffing our way
\nto that night\u2019s
\njust right grassy spot.
\nEverywhere an aural fog.
\nCeaseless chirring:
\nsoprano maracas; piccolos.<\/p>\n

Finally she squats, her gaze
\ninward to that same spot
\nevery dog studies,
\npreoccupied,
\ntill she springs up, as if renewed,
\nand hurries home for chow,
\nheedless of the shrill
\nstream of love calls
\nenveloping the darkness.<\/p>\n
